A Dallas County sheriff's deputy freed a kidnapping victim during a routine traffic stop early Sunday morning.

According to the sheriff's department, Sgt. Bryan Sherman pulled over a driver for speeding near Second Avenue and U.S. 175 at about 12:15 a.m.

After noticing a strong odor of alcohol, Sherman began performing a field sobriety test on the driver. Suddenly, a man got out of the truck and said "malo mans," meaning "bad men."

Sherman and Capt. Mark Howard quickly discovered that the man had been kidnapped and robbed by two men in the car following a traffic crash earlier in the evening.

The victim told police that he had been in a car crash with the men, Gregory Ramos Guzman, 43, and Ruben Segoviano, 38, near Interstate 30 and Fort Worth Avenue. He said the men demanded money for damages but he didn't have any money to give them.

Guzman and Segoviano forced him to drive them to his home to get property to give them that would cover the cost of the damages, the victim said.

"There is suspicion that they were going to do something else besides just rob and kidnap him," Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez said during a press conference.

Deputies found money, as well as other property, on Guzman and Segoviano during a search. Deputies also found two 10-inch knives in the truck.

"I want to recognize the diligent efforts of all our deputies involved," Valdez said in a statement Monday. "Dallas sheriff's department deputies work hard around the clock, and I am proud to say they continue to help protect our communities."

Guzman and Segoviano each face charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping and presumably were still ticketed for speeding.

Both are being held on immigration charges.
