Texas A&M University Academic Building, College Station, Texas.
A campus-wide alert telling people to seek shelter that was issued after an armed man was reported at Texas A&M University was lifted after about an hour.
Texas A&M police continue to investigate the report of an armed man.
No one matching the man's description was found, and no one is in custody, police said.
The alert, which was issued just after 4:30 p.m., directed people in campus buildings to remain where they were and told people who were outside to seek shelter. Just before 5:30 p.m., the school said people on campus could "resume activities" but remain cautious.
The Code Maroon remained active but could be deactivated later Thursday evening.
An earlier Code Maroon message described the man as a mid-to-late 40s white man who was about 5 feet 5 inches tall with a skinny build and light-colored hair and who was wearing a lime-green short-sleeved button-up shirt and jeans
The alert said the man, who was seen holding a wooden-handled handgun, was last seen near the University Center Parking Garage.
